Raja Raghuvanshi murder case to be made into film titled ‘Honeymoon in Shillong’

A forthcoming Hindi film, Honeymoon in Shillong, will bring the chilling murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi to the big screen, as announced on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Directed by SP Nimbavat, the film has received approval from Raghuvanshi’s family, who met with the production team to discuss the project in detail.

The movie will focus on the life of Raja Raghuvanshi, a transport businessman from Indore, and the tragic events surrounding his death during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Nimbavat emphasized that the film aims to uncover the truth behind the murder, explicitly stating it will not involve the family of Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja’s wife, who was implicated in the crime. The director revealed that the script is finalized, with 80% of the filming planned for Indore and the remaining 20% in Shillong, Meghalaya. Casting decisions are yet to be made, with Nimbavat planning to travel to Mumbai to select actors.

Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi were married in a grand ceremony in Indore on May 11, 2025. Just nine days later, on May 20, they embarked on their honeymoon in Shillong, only to disappear on May 23. On June 2, Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge in the East Khasi Hills district, with deep wounds on his neck indicating a violent death. Investigations revealed that Sonam, along with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three accomplices, conspired to murder Raja. Eight individuals, including Sonam and Kushwaha, have been arrested in connection with the case, though three have been released on bail.
