Mumbai MHADA Officer’s Wife Takes Her Life Amid Alleged Dowry Harassment

Mumbai: A tragic incident has unfolded in Mumbai’s Kandivali area, where Renu Katre, a 44-year-old schoolteacher and wife of a senior MHADA officer, died by suicide on Saturday night. The distressing case came to light after Renu’s sister lodged a complaint, accusing the MHADA officer and his mother of tormenting Renu. The allegations claim that the harassment stemmed from unfulfilled dowry expectations, which included demands for 22 lakh rupees in cash and eight tolas of gold. Mumbai police have responded swiftly, registering a First Information Report (FIR) against the husband and his mother for abetment of suicide.
