Kapil Sharma’s Cafe Reopens in Canada After Shooting Incident

Comedian Kapil Sharma’s restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, Canada, has resumed operations just over a week after a shooting incident targeted the establishment. The cafe, which opened earlier this month, was struck by gunfire on July 10, prompting a temporary closure. Sharma shared the news of the reopening on his Instagram Stories, reposting an announcement from Kap’s Cafe and expressing pride in his team’s resilience with the message, “Proud of you team @thekapscafe” accompanied by a red heart emoji.

The official statement from Kap’s Cafe, shared on Instagram, expressed gratitude for community support and reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a welcoming environment. “We’ve missed you and are truly grateful for your continued love and support,” the post read. “With heartfelt thanks, we’re opening our doors again ready to welcome you back with warmth, comfort, and care. See you soon, 8 am to 10 pm.” The cafe’s caption further noted, “The lights are on, the coffee’s warm, and our hearts are full. Kap’s Cafe reopens tomorrow. Catch us daily from 8 AM to 10 PM.”

The shooting occurred in the early hours of July 10, when multiple shots were fired at the cafe, damaging its windows but causing no injuries. Surrey Police Service responded promptly, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and circumstances. Reports from Indian media, as noted by Surrey Police spokesperson Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, suggest a possible link to a Khalistani separatist group, though no official confirmation has been provided. The cafe, a joint venture with Sharma’s wife, Ginni Chatrath, had garnered attention for its soft launch before the incident.
Kap’s Cafe emphasized its resolve to remain a community hub despite the violence. “Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community,” the statement concluded. The reopening marks a step toward recovery for the cafe, which aims to continue serving as a gathering place in Surrey’s Newton neighborhood.
