Harry Potter Fame Actress Emma Watson Receives 6-Month Driving Ban After Speeding Offense in Oxford

Emma Watson, best known for her portrayal of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, has made headlines following a driving ban resulting from a speeding violation.

According to a report by the BBC, Watson was prohibited from driving for six months after she was caught exceeding the speed limit in Oxford in July 2024. The actress was found to be driving her Audi at 38mph in a 30mph zone. At the time, she already had nine penalty points on her license, which contributed to the court’s decision. In addition to the driving ban, Watson was fined £1,044 by High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court.

Although Watson did not appear in person at the hearing, her representative, Mark Haslam, attended on her behalf. Haslam informed the court that Watson has been studying at Oxford since 2023 and is in a financial position to pay the imposed fine.

Watson has previously expressed her intention to take a step back from her acting career. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree at Oxford and is recognized for her advocacy work in sustainability and gender equality. In 2023, she co-founded a sustainable gin brand with her brother.

Despite largely staying out of the public eye, Watson made a notable appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025. This marked her first presence at the event in 12 years, and she was acknowledged for her contributions to Greta Gerwig’s film adaptation of “Little Women.”
