Doctor Drowns In Canal While Performing Religious Ritual With 6 Year Old Daughter In Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: A heartbreaking incident occurred on Saturday in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where 39-year-old pediatrician Dr. Nirav Ravindra Brahmbhatt tragically drowned in the Narmada canal near Adalaj while performing a religious ritual with his six-year-old daughter.
Dr. Nirav, husband of Dr. Kosha Brahmbhatt, a medical officer at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, had taken their daughter to immerse her “Zavera” (a part of the traditional Gor festival rituals) in the canal. The family resides in Ansuya Greens Society, Vavol, Gandhinagar.
While standing on the bank of the canal with his daughter, Dr. Nirav stepped into the water to complete the ritual. Suddenly, he lost his footing and slipped into the deep and fast-moving canal. His young daughter, witnessing the incident in horror, began crying and screaming for help.
Nearby rickshaw drivers rushed to the scene. One of them bravely jumped into the canal and pulled Dr. Nirav out after a considerable struggle. He was immediately taken to the nearby Adalaj Community Health Center. Despite medical efforts including CPR, Dr. Nirav could not be revived. He was declared dead upon arrival.
Dr. Kosha rushed to the health center as soon as she learned of the incident. The family and community are in deep shock over the untimely loss.
Police at the Adalaj station have registered a case of accidental death. Head Constable Pankaj Prajapati confirmed that preliminary investigation suggests Dr. Nirav slipped accidentally while stepping into the canal. Statements from family members are yet to be recorded due to the family’s current state of grief.
The identity of the rickshaw driver who rescued Dr. Nirav remains unknown, as he left the scene quietly after the incident. Police are appealing for information to help identify and thank the individual for his heroic act.
A video from the scene later surfaced, capturing the emotional aftermath. The distraught six-year-old is seen pleading with the rickshaw driver, pointing to the spot where her father drowned and saying through sobs: “My papa went to immerse the Zavera and didn’t come back. His phone is still inside. I don’t want to live without my papa… Uncle, do you know the address of Vavol? If my papa doesn’t return, please take me back home.”
The video has deeply moved viewers across social media, highlighting the depth of the tragedy and the innocence of a child’s grief.
