Ashadhi Fair 2025: Solapur Railway’s 239 Trains Carry Over 2 Lakh Devotees with Care and Precision

Mumbai: The Solapur Division of Central Railway played a pivotal role in supporting the spiritual journey of lakhs of Warkari pilgrims during the Ashadhi Fair 2025 in Pandharpur. With an impressive 27.4 lakh devotees converging on the holy town, the division ensured a seamless, safe, and compassionate experience for all.

Smooth Operations for Massive Crowds
From July 1 to July 10, 2025, Pandharpur Railway Station saw over 2 lakh pilgrims pass through its gates. To manage this influx, Solapur Division operated 239 train services—121 special and 118 regular—on a single-line section. On the main day of Ekadashi, July 6, 22 trains ran, followed by 18 the next day, efficiently dispersing the massive crowds with meticulous planning and care, as reported by PTI.

Zero-Incident Triumph
Despite a significant increase in footfall compared to last year, Solapur Division achieved a remarkable “Zero Injury – Zero Casualty” record. This success stemmed from robust crowd management, coordinated efforts, and a commitment to safety, ensuring a smooth pilgrimage for all.

A Heartfelt Commitment to Service
Beyond logistics, railway staff, security personnel, and civil defense volunteers went above and beyond, assisting elderly pilgrims with boarding and guiding those in need to medical facilities. Their dedication transformed the fair into a testament to human compassion.

Key Initiatives for Pilgrim Comfort

  • Streamlined Ticketing: The station expanded from 2 UTS windows, 4 ATVM terminals, and 1 PRS window to include 9 additional UTS counters, 2 ATVMs, and 5 mobile UTS terminals, minimizing wait times for tickets.
  • Resting Zones: Three holding areas totaling 2,680 sq. m. offered drinking water and toilets, providing safe resting spaces during peak hours.
  • Clear Guidance: Over 50 guidance boards and special timetable displays across the station and city directed devotees to platforms, temples, and amenities. Round-the-clock help desks staffed by Railway Commercial and RPF personnel offered personalized assistance.
  • Reliable Infrastructure: Two 125 KV DG sets ensured uninterrupted power, while 5-line and single-line train and coach indicator boards aided navigation.
  • Enhanced Security: CCTV surveillance, megaphones, and deployed security personnel maintained a safe environment, with the CCTV room doubling as a control hub.
  • Health Support: A 13-member medical team, including 3 doctors, provided 24/7 care, supported by ambulances and civil defense volunteers who assisted elderly and unwell pilgrims.
