Delhi Hit And Run Case : Drunk Audi Driver Who Killed 5 Sleeping On Delhi Footpath Arrested

New Delhi : Five pavement dwellers, including an eight-year-old girl injured after a speeding Audi allegedly driven by a drunk man ran them over as they slept on a footpath in Delhi. The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on July 9 in the Vasant Vihar area. The driver, identified as Utsav Shekhar (40), a Dwarka-based realtor, was arrested.

The victims were rushed to local hospitals before police arrived. They have been identified as Ladhi (40), her daughter Bimla (8), husband Sabami alias Chirma (45), and Ram Chander (45), along with his wife Narayani (35). All are originally from Rajasthan. The car then drove for some distance before ramming a truck.

Police officials said a case has been lodged, and further investigation is ongoing. Back in May, at least two people were killed and three injured after a Swift car, driven by a 19-year-old boy, first hit a cyclist and then crashed into a roadside slum in west Delhi.

A preliminary investigation and eyewitness accounts have revealed that a white Audi car drove over the victims while they were asleep on the footpath in front of Shiva Camp. Shekhar, a resident of Dwarka, was apprehended on the spot, the official said.
