Ex-Foreign Secretary Shringla, Ujjwal Nikam, C. Sadanandan Master, and Meenakshi Jain Appointed to Nominated to Rajya Sabha

The President of India nominates 12 persons as her nominees to the Rajya Sabha, four seats are currently vacant.

New Delhi: On July 12, 2025, President of India announced the nomination of former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, Kerala teacher C. Sadanandan Master, and historian Meenakshi Jain to the Rajya Sabha, as per a Gazette notification. These appointments fill vacancies left by retiring nominated members. The President nominates 12 eminent individuals to the Rajya Sabha for their contributions to arts, letters, and public service, with four seats currently vacant.

Shringla, a distinguished diplomat, previously served as Foreign Secretary and Ambassador to the United States, Bangladesh, and Thailand. He also played a key role as Chief Coordinator for India’s G20 Presidency in 2023.

Nikam, a prominent legal figure, acted as government counsel in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case. He contested the 2024 General Elections as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha seat.

Sadanandan Master, a BJP member and teacher from Kerala, ran in the 2021 Assembly elections. A survivor of political violence, he lost both legs in an attack by CPI(M) cadre near his village, Perinchery, on January 25, 1994.

Jain, a noted historian, formerly served as an Associate Professor of history at Gargi College, University of Delhi.
