Gambhira Bridge Near Vadodara Collapses: 2 Dead, Vehicles Plunge Into Mahisagar River

Vadodara: A major tragedy struck early Wednesday morning as the Gambhira Bridge, connecting Vadodara and Anand districts, collapsed suddenly, sending four vehicles plunging into the Mahisagar River. According to initial reports, two people have died and at least three others have been rescued from the water. The vehicles involved include two trucks, a pickup van, a Bolero SUV, and a motorcycle. One truck was seen hanging dangerously from the edge of the shattered bridge.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near Mujpur village in Padra taluka, with search and rescue operations still ongoing. The condition of others possibly trapped remains unknown at this hour. The Gambhira Bridge, a crucial link between two cities, played a vital role in connecting Vadodara, Anand, Bharuch, and Ankleshwar. Its sudden collapse has severed regional connectivity and caused major traffic gridlock.

District officials, including the Collector, have confirmed the incident. Senior Congress leader Amit Chavda shared a video of the collapse on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), urging authorities to arrange alternative traffic routes and investigate the cause of the structural failure.

Local sources say the bridge was decades old and reportedly in a dilapidated state, raising serious questions about infrastructure oversight and maintenance. With rescue efforts underway and traffic diversions being planned, the situation remains tense and fluid.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for live updates.
