Tragic End to Exorcism Ritual in Karnataka: Woman Beaten to Death

In a harrowing incident in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district, a 55-year-old woman named Geetamma lost her life on Monday night during a violent exorcism ritual. According to the sources, her son, Sanjay, believed she was possessed by an evil spirit and took her to a self-proclaimed exorcist named Asha for treatment.
Video evidence obtained shows the ritual descending into brutality. Asha is seen dragging Geetamma by her hair and striking her repeatedly, causing her to collapse. The footage also captures Asha performing ritualistic acts, such as circling a lemon around Geetamma’s head and hitting her with it. The relentless beating, which lasted from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., took place in Jambaragatte village near Holehonnur, as reported by the police.
Geetamma’s husband was also allegedly involved in the ritual. Following the incident, the Holehonnur police arrested Sanjay, Asha, and Geetamma’s husband, charging them with murder. Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered, highlighting the tragic consequences of superstition-driven violence.
