
Patna : Bihar Police, which is currently probing the murder of high-profile business tycoon Gopal Khemka, now suspects the involvement of gangster Ajay Verma- currently lodged in Beur Jail – in the killing. An FIR has been filed by Gaurav Khemka, the younger son of Gopal Khemka, against an unknown person.
Ajay Verma was also questioned during a raid inside Beur Jail conducted by senior Bihar Police officials. Police suspect that the murder was linked to a land dispute and are investigating the case as a possible contract killing. Gopal Khemka, the owner of Magadh Hospital – one of the oldest private hospitals in the state – was shot dead just as he stepped out of his car near an apartment close to his residence, Panache Hotel, in the upscale Gandhi Maidan area on Friday night.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the BJP over the murder, claiming that the ruling NDA coalition has turned Bihar into the crime capital of India. Bihar lives under the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the new normal, and the government has completely failed, he tweeted.
Gunjan’s murder, his wife had received threatening ransom calls from an unknown number. Though the police later identified the caller as mentally unstable and unrelated to the case, the pattern of threats continued to haunt the family. Gunjan’s murder was eventually linked to a land dispute involving a 14 bigha property near the four-lane road between Hajipur and Sonpur.
Gunjan had reportedly faced conflicts with both land mafias and brokers over ownership and commission issues. Sources had confirmed that he sought help from local strongmen to resolve the matter, a move that may have turned fatal.
