Gruesome Lajpat Nagar Killings: Police Arrest Suspect in Mother-Son Murder Case

In a chilling incident that has rattled Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, a 42-year-old woman, Ruchika Sewani, and her 14-year-old son, Krish Sewani, were found brutally murdered in their home in the F Block of Lajpat Nagar-I on Wednesday night, July 2, 2025. The Delhi Police have apprehended a 24-year-old suspect, Mukesh Paswan, who worked as a helper at the garment shop owned by Ruchika and her husband, Kuldeep Sewani, in the Lajpat Nagar market.

The tragedy came to light around 9:43 p.m. when Kuldeep Sewani, unable to reach his wife and son by phone, returned home to find bloodstains on the staircase of their five-story residence. Alarmed, he alerted the police, who arrived promptly at the scene. Upon breaking open the locked door, officers discovered Ruchika’s body in the bedroom and Krish’s in the bathroom, both with their throats slit, indicating a violent attack.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari, Mukesh Paswan, a resident of Bihar’s Hajipur, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Railway Police at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay station while attempting to flee to his hometown. Initial investigations suggest that Paswan’s motive stemmed from resentment after being scolded by Ruchika for his absence from work and issues related to a Rs 45,000 advance.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to gather further details.

The Sewani family, well-known in the area for their garment business, had lived in their Lajpat Nagar home for eight years. The shocking double murder has left the tight-knit community in disbelief, with residents gathering outside the residence as news of the incident spread on Thursday morning.
