First Glimpse Of Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’ Unveiled: Netizens Applaud Music, Casting And VFX

The much-anticipated teaser for ‘Ramayana’, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, has finally arrived, and with it, a first look at what is poised to become one of Indian cinema’s most monumental undertakings. Released on July 3, the three-minute teaser introduces audiences to a striking reimagination of the ancient epic, with Ranbir Kapoor appearing as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana.
Though the teaser showcases vast visual effects and mythological world-building, it holds back on character reveals, offering only fleeting yet powerful glimpses of Ram and Ravana toward the end. The teaser is elevated by a stirring musical backdrop, created through a rare collaboration between global maestro Hans Zimmer and India’s own AR Rahman.
The official caption accompanying the release read: “Ten years of Aspiration. Relentless Conviction to bring the Greatest Epic of all time to the World. An outcome through a collaboration of some of the world’s best to ensure that Ramayana is presented with the greatest amount of Reverence and Respect. Welcome to the Beginning. Let’s Celebrate the IMMORTAL story of Rama v/s Ravana. Our Truth. Our History.”
Set in a mythological landscape shaped by the cosmic trio, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, the narrative brings a new perspective to the age-old conflict. The ensemble cast adds considerable weight to the project. Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Ram is marked by quiet intensity, while Yash’s return to the big screen post-KGF: Chapter 2 sees him embracing the darker shades of Ravana. Sai Pallavi brings a graceful presence to Sita, with Sunny Deol donning the role of Hanuman and Ravie Dubey taking on Lakshman.
What further distinguishes Ramayana is its scale, both narrative and financial. According to earlier reports, the film is being made on a staggering budget of ₹835 crore, surpassing even Kalki 2898 AD and Adipurush, which were reportedly produced on budgets of ₹600 crore and ₹500 crore, respectively. This positions Ramayana as the most expensive Indian film to date.
The film’s production values are equally ambitious. Action choreography is being helmed by internationally acclaimed stunt experts Terry Notary (Avatar, Avengers) and Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road), promising immersive battle sequences that match the film’s mythic proportions. The visual execution is led by DNEG, the Oscar-winning VFX studio behind Inception, Dune, and Interstellar, ensuring the ancient tale is brought to screen with modern cinematic brilliance.
Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and co-produced by Yash through Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part saga. The first installment is slated for release in Diwali 2026, with the second part scheduled to arrive a year later, during Diwali 2027.
