Gujarat Launches New Scheme To Encourage Innovative Farming: Farmers To Get Cash Rewards Up To ₹1 Lakh

Ahmedabad: In a bid to promote agricultural innovation and inspire farmers to adopt creative and modern farming techniques, the Gujarat Government has introduced an upgraded scheme titled Sardar Patel Krushi Sanshodhan Puraskar. Under this initiative, farmers demonstrating exceptional creativity and contribution to agriculture will now be eligible for cash rewards of up to ₹1 lakh.
The scheme, which previously offered ₹51,000 to five progressive farmers across the state, has now been enhanced in both scale and reward value. Farmers from every district in Gujarat can apply for the award, which aims to foster a culture of experimentation and innovation at the grassroots level.
To be considered for the award, farmers must submit a formal application in the specified format to the District Agriculture Officer. The application form is available on the official website of the Director of Agriculture. For further assistance or information, farmers are encouraged to visit their respective District Panchayat Agriculture Offices.

This year, the scheme will recognize outstanding contributions in several key areas of agriculture. Farmers who have developed or introduced high-yielding and innovative crop varieties, particularly those replacing traditional crops, will be acknowledged for their efforts. Similarly, those who have implemented efficient water management techniques, such as advanced irrigation systems and rainwater harvesting methods that help recharge wells and borewells, will also be eligible for recognition.
The scheme also places a strong emphasis on dryland farming. Farmers operating in drought-prone or rain-dependent areas who have devised effective strategies to ensure successful crop yields despite water scarcity will be rewarded. Another important focus is on pest control innovation. Farmers who have developed new, integrated pest management techniques tailored to their local conditions through their own trials and methods will be honored.
Additionally, the government will recognize farmers who have invented or improved agricultural tools and equipment that enhance processes like ploughing, sowing, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and threshing. Beyond traditional farming, the scheme extends to allied agricultural sectors such as beekeeping, poultry farming, and fisheries. In these categories, farmers demonstrating excellence will receive appreciation certificates and annual honors.
