Iran’s Supreme Leader Derides Trump’s Call for Surrender

In a pointed rebuke, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei mocked U.S. President Donald Trump’s demand for Iran’s surrender, calling it a statement “too big to come out of the US president’s mouth.” The comment, shared via a post on X on June 26, 2025, followed Trump’s assertion that Iran must surrender.

Khamenei’s statement came in response to escalating tensions after the U.S. conducted strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21, 2025. The Supreme Leader’s remarks were part of his first public address since the U.S. attacks, delivered through a video broadcast on Iranian state television. In the speech, which lasted over 10 minutes, Khamenei dismissed Trump’s claims of a “spectacular military success,” asserting that the U.S. achieved little from the strikes. He further declared Iran’s resilience, emphasizing the nation’s victory over what he described as U.S. and Israeli aggression.

The verbal sparring underscores ongoing friction between Tehran and Washington, heightened by a recent 12-day conflict involving Israel and Iran, which ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Khamenei’s post on X also congratulated the Iranian people for their unity and strength during the conflict, reinforcing his defiance against external pressures.
