3 Dead, 8 Injured After Bus Carrying Char Dham Pilgrims Falls Into River In Uttarakhand

New Delhi : Three died and 8 others were injured after a 31-seater, was carrying a total of 20 people, including the driver, plunged into the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. So far, eight people have been rescued, while police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams continue search and rescue operations at the site for the missing 10 passengers.
The vehicle lost control and fell into the Alaknanda River, according to a statement by Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand Bharane. The passengers, who were travelling from Udaipur, Rajasthan, were going to the Badrinath temple. “One person has died and seven people were injured after an 18-seater bus fell into the Alaknanda river in Gholthir of Rudraprayag district. Teams of SDRF, police and administration are present on the spot for the rescue operation,” said Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
Teams from the SDRF and police personnel from Agastyamuni, Ratuda and Gochar police stations are present at the scene, though swift currents and rugged terrain are making their efforts difficult. The injured are as follows: Deepika Soni (42), Hemlata Soni (45), Ishwar Soni (46), Amita Soni (49), Bhavna Ishwar Soni (43), Bhavya Soni (7), Parth Soni (10), Sumit Kumar (23, driver).
Three critically injured passengers from the Rudraprayag bus accident were airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh by air ambulance, while five other passengers are undergoing treatment at Rudraprayag District Hospital.
