Mumbai Youth Battles Jobless Wait After Appointment Letter, Seeks Bombay High Court Relief Over Govt Delays

Mumbai: Bureaucratic hurdles continue to plague government processes, but one young man from Sawantwadi, Konkan, is taking a stand. Despite holding a valid appointment letter, he remains jobless due to administrative delays and has now turned to the Bombay High Court for justice.

Sumedh Shivaji Jadhav, a postgraduate in English literature, was selected as an Assistant Project Officer under the Maharashtra Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) by S2 Infotech International Limited, a private contractor tasked by the state government with personnel management. On October 10, 2024, Jadhav received his appointment letter, and the following day, S2 Infotech formally notified the Deputy District Magistrate of the EGS branch in Sindhudurg about his selection.

Yet, despite persistent follow-ups and visits to the relevant government department, Jadhav has not been officially onboarded or given any clear explanation for the delay. In his petition to the Bombay High Court, he stated that he has been unemployed for over eight months due to bureaucratic inaction, despite being appointed to a vacant post.

Jadhav’s petition further revealed, through information obtained under the Right to Information Act, that the Assistant Project Officer position at the Sawantwadi EGS office has been vacant since April 1, 2025. He argues that the authorities’ failure to act has deprived him of his rightful livelihood.

Seeking justice, Jadhav has urged the court to intervene, demanding that the state government and S2 Infotech be directed to appoint him to the role. His petition also calls for greater transparency and fairness in the government’s contract recruitment process to prevent similar injustices in the future.
