Gujarat Faces Major Floods from Heavy Rain

Heavy rainfall has triggered widespread flooding across Gujarat, disrupting daily life and prompting urgent action from authorities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued downpours, with an orange alert issued for multiple districts in south and central Gujarat, signaling the likelihood of severe weather conditions.

In Surat, relentless rain has inundated low-lying areas, creating flood-like situations that have submerged roads and residential neighborhoods. The city recorded over eight inches of rainfall in a single day, leading to severe waterlogging that has hampered traffic and forced schools to close. The Fire Department evacuated more than 100 residents from affected areas. Similarly, Tapi district faces comparable challenges, with authorities stepping up efforts to manage the crisis.

The IMD has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Gujarat for the next week, particularly in regions like Saurashtra and south Gujarat. Districts such as Amreli, Bhavnagar, Navsari, and Valsad remain under heightened alert, with the monsoon showing no signs of relenting. In the past 24 hours alone, 170 talukas across the state have reported significant rainfall, exacerbating the flooding.

Rescue operations are underway, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed in Surat to assist with relief efforts. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging residents in flood-prone areas to stay vigilant amid risks of further waterlogging and flash floods. The visuals of residents wading through waist-deep water, underscoring the scale of the disruption caused by the monsoon’s aggressive spell.

As Gujarat braces for more rain, the state government continues to coordinate response measures to mitigate the impact on affected communities.
