Udaipur: In a deeply disturbing incident, a French woman visiting India has alleged that she was raped by a man in the city of Udaipur. The assault reportedly took place just days after the U.S. government issued a travel advisory urging women to exercise caution while traveling alone in India.
According to police reports, the incident occurred after the tourist met the accused during a party at The Greek Farm Café & Resto near Tiger Hill. The man allegedly persuaded her to accompany him to his rented apartment in the Sukher area under the pretext of showing her scenic views. It was there that the sexual assault took place.
The victim, whose identity remains protected for legal and ethical reasons, later managed to seek medical help and admitted herself to a private hospital. Her condition is now reported to be stable. The hospital management subsequently informed the police, leading to the registration of an official complaint at the Badgaon police station.
Station House Officer Purna Singh Rajpurohit confirmed the details and stated that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed. A manhunt is currently underway to locate the accused, who fled the scene after the alleged assault.
As per the FIR, the tourist had arrived in Udaipur on June 22, 2025, from Delhi and was staying at a hotel in the Ambamata police jurisdiction. On Monday evening, she attended a party where the accused initiated contact. He invited her outside for a smoke and offered to show her local sights, which led her to leave the party with him.
In her statement, the victim recounted that the accused tried to initiate physical intimacy at his apartment. When she refused to hug him, he allegedly forced himself on her. She also mentioned that her phone was out of battery, leaving her unable to call for help.
The case has sparked renewed concerns over tourist safety, especially for female travelers in India. Authorities have assured that they are taking the case seriously and that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect.
