Israel Attacks Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Site Day After US Bombs Facility, Expert Says Bombing Probably Caused Very Significant Damage

New Delhi : Israel struck Iran’s Fordow nuclear site on Monday, a day after the United States dropped bombs on the secretive underground facility, Iranian media reported. It came as Israel, emboldened by the US’s support. The fresh attack on Fordow came hours after the US Air Force Struck the nuclear site as well as facilities in Natanz and Isfahan with GBU-57 “bunker buster” bombs and Tomahawk cruise missiles.
Fordow, which has the capability to quickly enrich uranium to levels close to weapons-grade, is located 80 to 90 meters below the surface. The facility could have only been targeted by the US as Israel doesn’t have the ammunition required to destroy the plant.
Given the explosive payload utilised and the extreme vibration-sensitive nature of centrifuges, very significant damage is expected to have occurred,” International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi said at an emergency meeting of the body. The IAEA had previously said no spike in off-site radiation levels had been reported after the US strikes.
While commercial satellite imagery, accessed by Reuters, indicated severe damage to the Fordow nuclear plant and the uranium-enriching centrifuges it housed, there has been no official confirmation as yet. The images show six holes where the US bombs appear to have penetrated the mountain.
