PM Modi Urges ‘De-escalation, Dialogue And Diplomacy’ In Call With Iran President Amid Escalating Iran-Israel Crisis

New Delhi: As tensions in the Middle East reach alarming levels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken with Iranian president urging for peace and diplomacy. On Sunday, PM Modi spoke with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing India’s position on promoting stability through “immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy.”

Amid a rapidly intensifying Israel-Iran conflict and the dramatic entry of the United States into the fray, marked by Sunday’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, PM Modi reiterated India’s concern and its longstanding commitment to regional peace. “Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

The phone conversation came just hours after the U.S. military struck Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. The strike, involving B-2 bombers and submarine-launched Tomahawk missiles, was ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump, who called the operation a “historic moment” and warned that Tehran now faced a choice between “peace or tragedy.”

In response, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stark warning, declaring that the U.S. had crossed “the most dangerous red line.” “There is no red line left that the US hasn’t crossed,” Araghchi said. “The last and most dangerous one was what happened only last night when they crossed a very big red line by attacking nuclear facilities.”

“The door to diplomacy should always be open, but this is not the case right now,” he added.

Iran had earlier warned that any U.S. intervention would lead to “irreparable damage” and potentially trigger a full-scale regional war. The conflict has already claimed over 865 lives in Iran, including civilians and security personnel, following Israeli airstrikes.
