New York City, Washington D. C. on High Alert After US Air Force Strikes Iranian Nuclear Facilities

Authorities in New York City, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles have significantly increased security measures following confirmed U.S. military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The actions come amid heightened vigilance for potential retaliatory threats.

In New York, the NYPD announced the deployment of extra officers to key locations citywide. “We’re tracking the situation unfolding in Iran,” the department stated on X (formerly Twitter). “Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC.”

Similarly, Washington D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department confirmed it is closely monitoring events and coordinating with multiple law enforcement agencies. “We are actively coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to share information and monitor intelligence to help safeguard residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia,” the MPD said. While stating there are currently “no known threats to the District,” the MPD reported maintaining an increased police presence at religious institutions and urged public vigilance.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass echoed the heightened state of alert. The city is “closely monitoring any threats to public safety,” Bass stated on X. Mirroring actions in New York and D.C. she confirmed: “There are no known credible threats at this time and out of an abundance of caution, LAPD is stepping up patrols near places of worship, community gathering spaces and other sensitive sites.”

What Happened in Iran?

These security deployments follow U.S. military strikes earlier the same day targeting three nuclear sites within Iran. The action marked a direct U.S. entry into the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, intensifying fears of a broader regional confrontation. U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the nation from the White House, declaring that Iran’s key nuclear facilities were “completely and fully obliterated.”

Iran strongly condemned the attack. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi asserted Tehran’s right to self-defense, calling the strikes a “grave violation”. “The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations,” Araghchi stated. The Yemeni military group Houthi characterized the U.S. strikes as the ‘beginning of war’.
