‘Urgent Call for Diplomacy’: World Leaders React to U.S. Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Sites

Israel-Iran conflict, President Donald Trump announced U.S. military strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow on Saturday night (U.S. time), marking the second week of heightened tensions. World leaders swiftly responded with many condemning the action and calling for urgent diplomatic efforts to prevent further chaos in the Middle East.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the U.S. move as a historic show of strength. “President Trump and I share a vision of peace through strength. Tonight the United States demonstrated that strength,” Netanyahu stated, suggesting the strikes could pave the way for regional stability.

However, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of the grave risks posed by the U.S. action. “These strikes mark a dangerous escalation in an already volatile region threatening global peace and security,” Guterres said according to Reuters. He emphasized the need for diplomacy stating, “There is no military solution. The only path forward is peace and we must avoid a spiral of chaos with catastrophic consequences for civilians and the world.”

From the White House, Trump described Iran as “the bully of the Middle East” and declared that its key nuclear enrichment sites had been “completely obliterated.” He urged Iran to pursue peace following the strikes which targeted facilities central to its nuclear program.

Global condemnation was swift. Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yvan Gil denounced the U.S. action as “military aggression” in a Telegram post calling for an immediate end to hostilities. “The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns the U.S. bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan at Israel’s request,” Gil said as reported by Reuters.

Mexico’s foreign ministry echoed the call for de-escalation stressing its commitment to peaceful resolutions. “In line with our pacifist principles we urge all parties to prioritize diplomatic dialogue to restore peace in the region,” the ministry posted on X. Similarly Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel labeled the U.S. strikes a “dangerous escalation” that violates international law. “This aggression risks plunging humanity into a crisis with irreversible consequences,” he wrote on X.

As tensions continue to rise, world leaders are pressing for diplomacy to prevent further devastation in the Middle East.
