Karishma Kapoor’s Ex-Husband Sunjay Kapur’s Funeral Held Today in Delhi, Children Sign Mourning Note

New Delhi – The funeral of prominent industrialist Sunjay Kapur, former husband of Bollywood actress Karishma Kapoor, took place today at 5 PM at the Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in Delhi. Kapur, aged 53, passed away on June 13 in London following a heart attack during a polo match.
A prayer meeting in his memory is scheduled for June 22 from 4 PM to 5 PM at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi, according to a note circulating on social media. The note, signed by Kapur’s mother, Rani Surinder Kapur, his wife Priya Sachdev, and their children Safira and Azarias, also included the names of Kapur’s children with Karishma Kapoor, Samaira (19) and Kiaan (13). The family’s statement featured a verse from the Guru Granth Sahib, reflecting on those who live with devotion and effort.
Kapur’s death was attributed to a cardiac arrest, with some reports suggesting it was triggered by swallowing a bee during the polo match. Legal formalities related to Kapur’s US citizenship delayed the return of his body to India, as noted by his father-in-law, Ashok Sachdev, in an interview. Sachdev confirmed the completion of necessary paperwork allowed the funeral to proceed in Delhi.
Kapur was married to Karishma Kapoor from 2003 until their mutual divorce in 2016. He later married Priya Sachdev in 2017, with whom he had a son, Azarias. Kapur’s first marriage was to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani from 1996 to 2000. He is survived by his mother, wife Priya, and children Samaira, Kiaan, Safira, and Azarias.
Sona Comstar, the automotive company Kapur chaired, issued a statement mourning his loss, emphasizing his vision and dedication. The company assured stakeholders that operations would continue unaffected, with no changes in management planned.
