Chitrangada Singh Backs Deepika Padukone’s 8-Hour Workday Choice

The recent debate surrounding Deepika Padukone’s request for an eight-hour workday following the birth of her daughter, Dua, has sparked widespread discussion in Bollywood about work-life balance for actresses, particularly new mothers. Chitrangada Singh, a prominent actress, has weighed in, emphasizing that such decisions hinge on an actor’s relationship with their director and producer.

In an interview, Singh acknowledged the challenges of implementing fixed working hours in the film industry, noting that schedules often depend on the dynamics between the actor and the production team. “It’s a collaborative process,” she told highlighting that Deepika’s stature in the industry grants her the ability to negotiate such terms. “As a major star, Deepika has earned the right to prioritize her needs,” Singh added.

Padukone, who welcomed her daughter with husband Ranveer Singh on September 8, 2024, has been at the center of this conversation since her reported exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Spirit. Sources suggest her request for an eight-hour workday, alongside other demands, led to her departure from the project. This has fueled a broader dialogue about the demanding schedules actresses face and the need for more accommodating work environments, especially for those balancing motherhood.

Singh, who recently starred in Housefull 5 alongside Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and others, concluded that individual choices should be respected. “Deepika’s position allows her to set her own terms, and that’s her prerogative,” she said, reinforcing the importance of personal agency in such decisions.
