Air India Flight AI2493 Mumbai-Ahmedabad Cancelled Due to Crew Duty Limits Amid Operational Delays

Mumbai: Air India’s flight AI2493 from Mumbai to Ahmedabad was grounded on Monday after operational hiccups led to the crew exceeding their permitted duty hours, sources confirmed.
The flight, set to operate on an Airbus A321-211 (VT-PPL), faced initial delays due to undisclosed operational challenges. As the delay extended the crew surpassed their Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL), a safety regulation capping the working hours of airline crew members resulting in the flight’s cancellation.
In a separate incident, an Air India Express flight from Delhi to Ranchi was forced to return to Delhi shortly after takeoff on Monday due to a suspected technical glitch. Following inspections and clearance the aircraft resumed normal operations an Air India Express spokesperson stated.
“We regret the inconvenience caused after one of our flights returned to Delhi due to a suspected technical issue. The aircraft was cleared post-inspection and continued its scheduled operations” the spokesperson said.
Earlier that day, an Air India flight, AI 315, operating a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner from Hong Kong to Delhi, was diverted back to Hong Kong after the pilot reported a potential technical issue mid-flight, sources revealed. Flight Radar 24 data indicated the flight was due to arrive in Delhi by 12:20 PM. Passengers disembarked safely, and the aircraft is currently undergoing a safety inspection, according to sources.
