Mental Evaluation Clears Sonam Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case

SHILLONG/INDORE: Sonam Raghuvanshi, the primary suspect in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Sohra, Meghalaya, has been declared mentally fit following a psychiatric evaluation at the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences on Monday, according to police sources. The assessment clears the way for authorities to proceed with a crime scene recreation scheduled for Tuesday in Sohra, where Raja was killed last month.
Sonam, along with four other individuals from outside Meghalaya, remains in custody as the investigation continues. The group is set to be transported to the crime scene to assist police in reconstructing the events leading to Raja’s death. A local court previously granted an eight-day police remand on June 11 to facilitate further inquiries, and authorities are likely to request an extension of custody.
In Indore, over 2,200 kilometers away, Sonam’s brother, Govind, has been summoned for questioning by Shillong police. Meanwhile, Raja’s family held his ‘tehrvi’ the traditional 13th-day death ritual on Monday, attended only by close relatives, including Govind, at their home in Indore.
