Gujarat Ex-CM Vijay Rupani’s Funeral To Take Place In Rajkot; His Son To Reach Country Tomorrow

PM Modi, CM Patel, Leaders Express Condolences To Rupani's Wife

The Air India plane crash that claimed around 265 lives also resulted in the tragic death of Gujarat’s former chief minister Vijay Rupani. His demise has sent shock waves through the political landscape of the state and the country. Following his demise, Rupani’s funeral is said to take place in Rajkot as per latest updates.

Upon learning about the incident, Rupani’s wife Anjali Rupani rushed to their residence in Gandhinagar. She reached Ahmedabad earlier today from London in a special chartered plane, after which she rushed to their residence located in Gandhinagar. On the other hand, Rupani’s son Rishabh is in America as of now and will reach here tomorrow (June 14).

Meanwhile, Rupani’s residence is bustling with political leaders, especially of BJP, coming to express their condolences to Rupani’s wife. Leaders including Cabinet Minister Mulubhai Bera, Kunwarji Bawaliya, Kuber Dindor, Bhanuben Babariya, and Purushottam Rupala, among others, visited Rupani’s residence today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met Anjali Rupani at her residence and expressed grief while delivering his condolences. He also posted about the same on his X account. In addition, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also posted on his X account and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.

In Rajkot, all private schools will remain closed tomorrow, as decided by the independent school managers. The schools will pay a tribute to the former CM by observing a ‘bandh’. On the other hand, Congress spokesperson Rohitsinh Rajput has appealed to the people of Rajkot to observe a voluntary bandh due to Rupani’s demise. It is being speculated that Rupani’s funeral will take place after 3 days.

Rupani served as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat, taking office in August 2016 following Anandiben Patel’s resignation. He led the state until 2021, when Bhupendra Patel succeeded him. This marks the second time a former Gujarat Chief Minister has lost their life in a plane crash, further deepening the sense of mourning in the state. The plane crash has stirred the entire nation.
