
Porbandar: A major accident occurred Wednesday morning during the Ramdevpir Mandap Festival in Porbandar. A massive mandap (canopy), approximately 50 to 55 feet tall, suddenly collapsed at the festival taking place at the Chowpati Mela Ground while it was being erected, resulting in one fatality and injuries to more than 10 people.
Eyewitnesses reported that the mandap came crashing down without warning, sparking panic among the thousands gathered at the site. The mishap happened during the setup phase of the religious event, just hours after crowds had swelled during the previous night’s festivities
The deceased has been identified as Vanrajbhai Navghanbhai Goraniya, a government hospital security guard. He had finished his shift and was visiting the site for a glimpse of the mandap when he was fatally struck on the head by falling debris. His death has left the community in deep mourning
All 16 injured were quickly transported to the local government hospital for treatment. Police and emergency services rushed to the scene to control the situation and evacuate the crowd to prevent further injuries.
Local political leaders, including MLA Arjun Modhwadia, former cabinet minister Babu Bokhiria, and Porbandar BJP district president Dr. Chetnaben Tiwari, visited the hospital to meet with the injured and ensure they received proper medical care. They also coordinated with the hospital staff to oversee treatment efforts. The Ramdevpir Mandap Festival is a highly anticipated religious event in Porbandar, drawing large crowds each year. This unfortunate event has sparked intense discussions and sorrow throughout the area.
