Elon Musk Denounces Trump’s Spending Bill as Budget-Busting Abomination

Washington, June 4, 2025 – Tech mogul Elon Musk sharply criticized a major spending and tax bill championed by U.S. President Donald Trump, labeling it a “disgusting abomination” in a series of posts on X. The Tesla CEO, who recently stepped down from his advisory role in the Trump administration, expressed dismay over the legislation, arguing it would significantly inflate the federal deficit.
Musk, who until last week led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), took to X to voice his frustration, stating, “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.” He further warned that the bill could push the national deficit to $2.5 trillion, a concern echoed by fiscal conservatives like Senators Rand Paul and Ron Johnson.
The legislation, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” aims to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts while increasing funding for military and border security initiatives. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill could add between $2.3 trillion and $5 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. Despite Musk’s criticisms, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the bill, asserting it aligns with Trump’s agenda and dismissing Musk’s remarks as not swaying the president’s stance.
Musk’s outspoken critique follows his departure from DOGE, where he claimed responsibility for $180 billion in federal budget cuts, far below his initial $1 trillion target. His comments have sparked tensions with Trump, whom he supported with nearly $275 million during the 2024 election campaign. The White House, however, downplayed the rift, with Leavitt noting that Trump was aware of Musk’s position on the bill.
The debate over the bill highlights divisions within the Republican Party, with some senators, including Ted Cruz, acknowledging the need for revisions to address excessive spending. As the legislation moves through Congress, Musk’s vocal opposition underscores ongoing concerns about fiscal responsibility and government efficiency.
