
With the ongoing change in Gujarat’s weather, several areas are experiencing strong winds, dust storms, rainfall, and thunderstorms from the past few days. Some areas in Ahmedabad received light showers along with a dust storm on Sunday (May 25) evening.
Heavy winds blew as well, causing trees and hoardings to fall at certain places. Moreover, posters, banners, and mandaps that were put up in some areas to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his state visit also got damaged.
The IMD has predicted light to heavy rainfall till June 1. For the next 6 days, most of the parts of the state are likely to experience strong winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour, along with rainfall and thunderstorm. Due to this, fishermen have also been instructed not to venture out into the sea. On the other hand, a yellow alert has been issued in 6 districts of Saurashtra and North Gujarat.
As per IMD, an orange alert has been issued for today (May 26) at scattered places of Surendranagar, Botad, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Tapi, Daang, Navsari, and Valsad, due to the blowing of winds at a speed of 40-60 km per hour along with thunderstorm accompanied by medium rainfall.
Apart from these places, other districts are also likely to experience strong winds and rainfall. On May 27, winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 km per hour along with thunderstorms and rainfall are forecasted in the state.
As of May 28, a yellow alert has been issued in scattered places of Amreli, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, and Dahod due to heavy rainfall. For the same reasons, a yellow alert has been issued in scattered places of Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Mahisagar, Aravalli, Amreli, and Bhavnagar, on May 29.
On the other hand, light to medium rainfall along with thunderstorms has been predicted in scattered places of Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir-Somnath, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Panchmahal, Dahod, Surat, Tapi, Daang, Navsari, and Valsad, from May 30 to June 1. During this time there are possibilities of winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 km per hour in the state.
Earlier, due to such weather, instructions were given to start 24×7 control rooms in areas where alerts had been issued. Moreover, fishermen were also ordered not to venture into the sea due to strong and high waves.
