PM Modi Highlights Gujarat’s Lion Census Success And Operation Sindoor In First ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Since The Mission

Ahmedabad: In the 122nd edition of his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reflected on India’s recent achievements, including the successful Asiatic Lion census and the impact of Operation Sindoor.
During the broadcast, PM Modi lauded the increase in the population of Asiatic lions in Gujarat’s Gir forest, calling the development “very encouraging.” According to the Gujarat forest department, the lion population has risen from 674 to 891 over the past five years. The current estimates include 196 males, 330 females, 140 sub-adults, and 225 cubs.
“This number of lions that emerged after the lion census is very encouraging,” the Prime Minister remarked. He explained that the census covered 11 districts across 35,000 square kilometers, showcasing the scale of the operation and the meticulous methods used to ensure accuracy. Modi credited the achievement to the synergy of modern techniques and community participation.
He emphasized the dedication of the teams involved in the process, noting that they worked tirelessly to conduct both verification and cross-verification for precise data. “The rise in the population of the Asiatic Lion shows that when the sense of ownership strengthens in the society, amazing results happen,” he said.
PM Modi also recognized the contributions of forest officials, wildlife conservationists, and local communities, including the growing role of women as forest officers. Their combined efforts, he said, have created a secure and thriving environment for lions. Recent reports also show that the lions’ habitat has expanded significantly, with their geographical range growing from 22,000 to around 30,000 square kilometers, an indicator of successful habitat restoration and adaptation.
In addition to environmental milestones, PM Modi addressed the significance of Operation Sindoor. He described the mission as a symbol of India’s determination and transformation on the global stage. “Operation Sindoor is the picture of our resolve, courage, and a changing India,” he stated, adding that it has “infused new confidence and energy” into the international campaign against terrorism.
