Sanjay Raut Urges Sharad Pawar to Demand Resignations of Modi and Shah Over Security Lapses

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut called on Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Sharad Pawar to press for the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, citing their failure to prevent the recent Pahalgam terror attack and their handling of India-Pakistan tensions. Speaking on Wednesday, Raut criticized the central government’s response, suggesting it should have prioritized diplomatic outreach to neighboring countries like China, Sri Lanka, and Nepal to counter Pakistan’s actions before involving the United States.
Raut argued that Pawar, a prominent opposition figure, should take a bold stance by demanding accountability for what he described as a security lapse in the Pahalgam attack and a compromise of national sovereignty due to U.S. intervention in the India-Pakistan military standoff. “Why is Pawar slamming us? Instead, he should set an example by demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for security failure in the Pahalgam attack and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for compromising the nation’s sovereignty by accepting the intervention of U.S. President Donald Trump,” Raut told Hindustan Times.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP also expressed frustration over the government’s decision to include party colleague Priyanka Chaturvedi in an all-party delegation without consulting party leadership. Raut questioned the purpose of sending these delegations to African and European countries, arguing they are unlikely to resolve the India-Pakistan conflict. He emphasized that the government should have engaged party leaders before finalizing delegation members.
Tensions within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance have been evident since its lackluster performance in the November 2024 assembly elections. Raut’s comments follow his earlier remarks on a perceived reconciliation between Sharad Pawar and his nephew, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, after they appeared together at a public event in Satara. Despite these frictions, Raut’s latest statements underscore ongoing concerns about national security and diplomatic strategy.
